All the way from Boston to Cape Town at UWC

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) experienced cultural diversity last weekend when the Boston City Singers showcased their talent and integrated it with some local flavour.
The 38 singers who are aged between 11 and 18 were invited to South Africa to perform with different diverse communities.
On Friday 5 August, the Boston City Singers performed a lunchtime concert behind the UWC student centro.
The following day the audience were in for a bigger surprise as the group decided to stir things up. Saturday 6 August saw the Boston City Singers collaborate with Fezeka Chorale and the UWC Chamber Choir for an extra added local flavour. The concert too place at 19:00 in the Centre for the Performing Arts (CPA) as the UWC CPA’s Mandela Day initiative.
The Boston City Singers was founded in 1995 to provide opportunities for young people
in their communities. It sought to unite children and families from all backgrounds through music.
Today the group is 350 members strong and performs over 25 concerts a year across the
United States.
They also do international tours and have graced countries such as Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Some other collaborations have seen the likes of Chicago Children’s Chorus, Cross Boarder Chorus from Ireland and other local groups such as Drakensberg Boys’ Choir and TUKS Camerata from South Africa.
